The Pioneer Square Totem Pole is a striking testament to the rich indigenous heritage of the Pacific Northwest, located in the heart of Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square. On October 18, 1899, a 60-foot totem pole from Fort Tongass, Alaska, is unveiled in Seattle’s Pioneer Square and “greeted by cheers of a multitude of people.” The totem had been stolen from a Tlingit. The Pioneer Square totem pole, also referred to as the Seattle totem pole and historically as the Chief-of-All-Women pole, is a Tlingit totem pole located in Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle, Washington.
